Everything you need to know about implementing and using Omnivisto's Vistogram®.
Got a question for the team? If you don't see it below, let us know and we'll try and provide an answer.
At time of writing the most accessible route to implement the Vistogram® is to leverage Omnivisto’s Vistogram custom visual for Power PI®. It is Microsoft® Certified so you can be assured that it satisfies Microsoft’s requirements in terms of quality and security. There is plenty of documentation on our website to get you started.
If you are not an existing Power BI user or you want to explore alternatives, get in touch with the team for a chat.
Yes.
If you are a Power BI® user, the easiest way to do this might be to use Power BI’s embedding capabilities so that you can integrate the Vistogram® with another web based platform such as SAP for instance.
We do have an HTML / JavaScript based solution for settings in which Power BI® is not available.
Additionally, if you want to license Omnivisto’s IP so that you can incorporate the Vistogram® natively in your own software, get in touch.
We will be producing a rectilinear (square) format in due course with all the Vistogram® good stuff baked in. You’ll be able to pick the format that suits you best.
Using Power BI – all your data stays within your existing organisational boundaries (tenant).
Omnivisto’s custom visual for Power BI is Certified by Microsoft which means that it fulfils Microsoft’s requirements for security and quality.
In fact, because all your data stays centralized and all access to it is authenticated and authorised, your data should be more secure. There is some high-level documentation on this here.
Yes.
This was important to us early on, so the capability is baked in. You’ll have the opportunity to customize the Vistogram’s colour palette and fonts directly within Power BI.

Omnivisto conceived and designed the Vistogram very much with project portfolio management (PPM) workloads in mind. This remains the core workload that both Omnivisto and the Vistogram are best suited to support.
Fundamentally, the Vistogram visualizes activities and events that occur over time. Future versions of the Vistogram will be able to show how benefits and other metrics vary with time.
This has wider applications than PPM and Omnivisto welcome discussions about how the Vistogram can be used (for instance) in:
And any other arenas in which complex chronological data can be visualized and exploited.
We have taken great pains to try and make this as easy as possible but ultimately, it depends on your source data format and location.
If you have a static file (Excel®, Microsoft Project Plan, CSV etc) then make sure that as a minimum it conforms to the data specification here and follow the instructions here. More often you might be pipelining your data directly from Microsoft Planner Premium®, Oracle Primavera P6®, PlanView®, SmartSheet® or something else.
Check our website for documentation. As we support customers with an increasing breadth of platforms and source data, we’ll document our learnings and make the guidance available.
In the case of SmartSheet (for instance) we have specific guidance on this (and Primavera guidance is coming shortly).
If your source data does not have an outline number (see sample data here), one will need to be added. It may be expedient to do this manually, but we also have some specific data enrichment know how within Omnivisto and we will be happy to help.
Omnivisto is keen to develop a capability to support adoption of the Vistogram and if you have got something a bit out of the ordinary – get in touch. We’ll do our best to help.
